Maintenance & Repairs

Keep your beach accessibility equipment safe, reliable and ready for use.

Inclusive Beaches Australia provides maintenance guidance, servicing support and replacement parts for beach access matting, beach wheelchairs and outdoor accessibility equipment.

Our aim is to help councils, surf lifesaving clubs, resorts and community organisations keep their equipment in good condition, ensuring it remains safe, functional and ready for the community.

Pathway Maintenance

ACCESSMAT®, COCOPATH™ and GRASSMAT® are designed to provide long-term access with minimal ongoing maintenance requirements.

Routine maintenance is generally limited to removing accumulated sand, leaves and debris using a broom, blower or pressure washer, along with periodic checks to ensure anchoring systems, connectors and pathway alignment remain secure.

The permeable design of ACCESSMAT® and COCOPATH™ allows sand and water to pass through the surface rather than becoming trapped beneath the pathway, helping reduce maintenance requirements and maintain a stable access surface.

For GRASSMAT® installations, the open mesh structure allows grass to grow back through the matting, creating a more natural pathway surface. Maintenance is typically similar to the surrounding turf area and may include normal mowing and general grounds maintenance.

Recommended Pathway Checks
  • Check anchoring points and connectors
  • Confirm the pathway remains correctly aligned
  • Remove accumulated sand, leaves or debris
  • Inspect for signs of wear, damage or movement
  • Monitor changes to the underlying surface after storms or heavy use
  • Replace damaged components or sections if required

Beach Wheelchair Servicing & Repairs

We recommend all beach wheelchairs are professionally inspected and serviced at least once every 12 months.

Beach wheelchairs operate in harsh environments. Saltwater, sand, UV exposure and regular public use can gradually affect moving parts, tyres, flotation components, fasteners and frame hardware.

Regular servicing helps maximise equipment lifespan, reduce unexpected downtime and ensure beach wheelchairs remain safe and ready for use by the community.

WaterWheels® beach wheelchairs should also be rinsed thoroughly with fresh water after use and checked regularly for wear, corrosion, damage, tyre condition and secure connections.

Annual Beach Wheelchair Service

Inclusive Beaches Australia can coordinate annual servicing, inspections and repair support for WaterWheels® beach wheelchairs and other beach accessibility equipment.

Depending on the condition of the wheelchair and site requirements, servicing may include:

  • Full inspection of frame, hardware and structural components
  • Cleaning and removal of accumulated sand, salt and debris
  • Lubrication of moving parts and connection points
  • Inspection and adjustment of wheel assemblies
  • Tyre condition and pressure checks
  • Inspection of seat, straps and flotation components
  • Replacement of worn or damaged components where required
  • Corrosion assessment and preventative maintenance
  • Operational testing to ensure the wheelchair functions correctly
  • Written recommendations for any future repairs or replacement parts

Regular servicing helps reduce unexpected failures, minimise downtime during peak seasons and ensure equipment remains safe and ready for use by the community.
