ACCESSMAT® Installation Guide

ACCESSMAT® Installation Guide

ACCESSMAT® is designed to be quick and straightforward to install, with most pathways able to be deployed by two people using basic hand tools.

The lightweight non-woven polyester construction contours to natural beach surfaces while providing a firm and stable access route across soft sand.

Before You Begin

Before installation, inspect and prepare the pathway location. Remove any debris, seaweed, rocks or other obstacles and rake the sand to create a reasonably flat and even surface.

Key factors include:

  • Location of the high tide line
  • Available beach width and tidal fluctuations
  • Accessible parking, amenities and beach access points
  • Intended pathway length and layout

The pathway should be positioned to provide a clear access route across sand, generally finishing near the high tide line rather than extending into the water.

Installation Overview

A typical ACCESSMAT® installation involves:

  1. Preparing the sand surface by raking and flattening the installation area.
  2. Positioning the roll at the desired starting point.
  3. Rolling the pathway out to its full length.
  4. Securing the pathway using the supplied anchoring system.
  5. Connecting additional sections if required.
  6. Inspecting the pathway before use.

ACCESSMAT® is designed for rapid deployment, two people can typically install a roll in less than 10 minutes.

Anchoring the Pathway

Proper anchoring helps keep the pathway positioned correctly and reduces movement during use.

The exact number and placement of anchors will vary depending on:

  • Pathway length
  • Sand conditions
  • Local site conditions

As a general guide, anchor points should be installed along both sides of the pathway and at each end in accordance with the installation instructions supplied with the product.

Connecting Multiple Sections

ACCESSMAT® sections can be joined together using the connector system to create longer pathways or additional layouts where required.

The connector system helps create a smoother transition between adjoining sections and allows multiple rolls to be installed as one continuous access route.

Ongoing Maintenance

ACCESSMAT® requires minimal maintenance under normal conditions.

Routine maintenance may include:

  • Removing debris with a broom or blower
  • Occasional pressure washing
  • Inspecting anchor points
  • Checking connectors and hardware
  • Ensuring the pathway remains clear and safely positioned

The permeable structure allows sand to pass through the matting rather than becoming trapped beneath the surface, helping the pathway remain lightweight and easier to manage.

Removal and Storage

Where required, ACCESSMAT® can be rolled up and stored when no longer needed.

The lightweight construction allows sections to be removed, transported and redeployed as required, while the durable non-woven polyester construction is designed to withstand normal public use over many seasons.
